WHAT IS A CNAME?

A CNAME or canonical name is a useful method of redirection. It allows you to direct all traffic from a domain or subdomain to another hostname.

For example, URLs are often inputted incorrectly; one too many w’s or even one too few. If you were to set up a CNAME record on your domain for ww.SSL247.co.uk and www.SSL247.co.uk then all visitors who misspelt the domain would be redirected to your correct site: www.SSL247.co.uk.

It’s also possible to do this with a domain name in a form of web-forwarding. A CNAME record could be used to redirect traffic from www.hackavert.com to www.SSL247.co.uk/hackavert
